Be prepared to pay more

Some of you may be aware that our food costs are rising - especially foods that contain grains/wheat.
Being that my business has everything to do with flour - this situation is of great concern. Recently there have been many articles in the Toronto Star concerning this issue. Here is one that might be of interest to you.

For Don's 60th birthday, his wife thought it would be great to have a cake to represent one of the passions in his life - his bagpipes. She sent me images of his personal set of bagpipes so that I could recreate them in cake. And here is the final result! They look pretty real!

Back from Westminster Maryland

Well it was a long drive, but I'm back from my trip to the Mid Atlantic Wedding Cake Competition in Westminster Maryland.

There were almost 80 wedding cake entries, and the competition was tough. Unfortunately my cake - Sakura's Song didn't place in the top 10, but it made it to the top 20 which is an amazing result based upon the talent in that room!

I learned a lot, had a great time, got to meet some dear "sugar friends" and make some more!

Here are some pics of my cake entry. Based upon a Japanese Kimono, everything was handmade and edible - including the Geisha painting and the vase.

It's competition time again!

This week I will be traveling to Maryland to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Wedding Cake Competition http://www.midatlanticcakeshow.com/
This year the theme is Fabric Fantasies and my cake is based on a gorgeous kimono I found online.
Right now I'm making the finishing touches on the cake, then it's all to go into the car for my road trip! I'll be sure to post more about the show when I return next week.
